Mother Japan is a Tokyo-based craft studio founded by a former Chief Designer for the 'Playboy' fashion brand in the 1980s (my mother) and a London-based creative director (myself).
Our mission is to redefine Japanese heritage through sustainable upcycling, breathing new life into forgotten treasures and preventing the loss of ancient techniques. We source rare, authentic vintage textiles from across the country, reworking them into contemporary silhouettes. Each piece is handcrafted in Japan and quality-assured by our Japanese specialist.
Beyond sustainable upcycling, we offer a new way to experience Japanese textile culture. Each piece is shipped directly from our Tokyo studio to the world, bringing a thousand years of Japanese creativity into the modern wardrobe.
